CAREER
Chiu's first book, Troublemaker and Other Saints, is a short story collection published in 2001 by Putnam Press.[3] The book contains 11 linked stories about different members of a Chinese American community—including a matriarch, a granddaughter, and a young punk—who all collide and come together in miraculous ways. [4]
Chiu's second book, Beauty, was published in 2020 by Santa Fe Writers Project. The book follows Amy Wong, an up-and-coming fashion designer. Throughout the novel, Amy faces rival fashion designers and prejudice while also struggling with marriage and motherhood. Beauty was the grand prize winner of the James Alan McPherson Award.[5]. Kirkus Reviews wrote that it is a "A sexy, unflinching portrait of a woman revolting against the life she makes for herself." [6]
