Old Hickory was an American alternative rock band based in Los Angeles. It was active in the 1990s as part of LA's Silver Lake alternative music scene. During this time, they released three albums and two singles.

History

Band members Michael "Roxy" Marquesen and Scott Matz met and began recording music together in 1993 while living in the Silverlake neighborhood of Los Angeles. In 1994, they met Jason Coile and Io Perry while jamming with other friends and, although all members were performing in other bands, decided to join up and make music together.[1] The group recorded and self-released an album-length cassette entitled Keeping Xenogenetic Leprechauns Unconscious in 1995 which they sent to local Los Angeles area college radio stations, quickly attracting the interest of local alternative station KXLU.[2]

They were eventually signed by Treat & Release Records, a sublabel of A&M Records, but soon after starting to record their first album, Other Eras... Such as Witchcraft, the sublabel folded and the album was eventually released on the A&M parent label.[1]

The band would go on to release one more album, Brain Travels Before the Heart Stops, on Mootron Records in 1997.[3]
