Wasala Mudiyanselage Chinthana Priyankara Wasala (born 13 September 1984) is a Sri Lankan sport journalist. Born in Kurunegala, Sri Lanka, he studied at the Bandaranaike Maha Vidyalaya, Kanthalai[1] before moving to Maliyadeva College, Kurunegala in 1996 following his success in the Grade V Scholarship Examination. He joined the Daily News - an English-language newspaper in Sri Lanka, published by the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited (Lake House),- on March 15 2006 before moving to The Peninsula Newspaper in Qatar on December 15 2015.
During his time at the Daily News, Chinthana Wasala has covered numerous major local and international events, including the 2006 South Asian Games, 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games, 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup, 2014[2] Glasgow Commonwealth Games, 2012 T20 World Cup and many others.
At The Peninsula newspaper in Qatar, he contributed[3] by covering major sport events such as the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, Qatar Classic Squash Championship[4], 2023 Formula 1 Qatar Grand Prix, 2019 IAAF World Athletics Championships, Qatar MotoGP, WTA Qatar Open[5], ATP Qatar Open[6] and 2023 Qatar Masters Open Chess Championship among many others.
