Chimwemwe Undi is a Black poet, spoken word artist, editor, and lawyer from Winnipeg, Manitoba.[1][2] She is Winnipeg's third Poet Laureate, serving from 2023 to 2024.[3]

After immigrating to Winnipeg with her family, Undi began writing and performing poetry at 16 through her high school's slam poetry club. She went on to complete a Bachelor of the Arts (Adv) in linguistics at the University of Manitoba and a Master of the Arts at York University in Toronto. Following a passion for law, she decided to return to Winnipeg to complete her law degree at the University of Manitoba.[1][4][5]

Undi is the author of two books: the chapbook The Habitual Be[6] and the forthcoming poetry collection, Scientific Marvel.[2] She has been recognized as one of CBC Manitoba’s Future 40,[4] and she won the John Hirsch Emerging Manitoba Writer Award at the 2022 Manitoba Book Awards.[7] Her work has been published in Prairie Fire, CV2 Magazine, Border Crossings, and The Walrus.[8][9]

Undi practices law with Thompson Dorfman Sweatman in Winnipeg.[3]
