CHEKWEL LYDIA Born on 16-Aug-1964 is a Ugandan politician andTeacher. She is the outgoing member of parliament for Kween County, Kween District, who in 2011 and 2016 was elected as the Women Member of parliament to serve in the Uganda's 9th and 10th parliament respectively representing kween County, Kween District|kween district.[1]

Background and education

CHEKWEL LYDIA had her primary education at Moyok Primary Schooll and attained her Primary School Leaving Examination|PLE certification in 1976.

She then progressed to St Elizabeth Senior Secondary School, Kidetok for her O-Level education, and then to Institute of Teacher Education Kyambogo attaining a Uganda Certificate of Education|UCE certification in 1981 and a Primary Teachers Certificate in 1988 respectively[1].

In 2000 she pursued a Diploma in Teacher Education from Institute of Teacher Education Kyambogo and Bachelor of Education from Kyambogo Univeristy in 2008[1].

Career

Earlier in her career, Lydia served as a Teacher in chemwania primary school from 1988 to 2000. After, she became a tutor of Kapchorwa Primary Normal school|Teachers College from 2000 to 2011 when she joined politics and represented kween county, kween district in Uganda's 9th parliament[2]. in the year 2015, The women parliamentary race was too tight and she lost the primary elections to her closest opponent Cherukut Emma Rose[3] aka Pakalast and she later came as an independent candidate in the 2016 parliamentary polls and represented her constituency for the second term in the 10th pariament[4].

Personal life

Chekwel lydia loves Working with women and children, Reading Papers, Adventuring, Guidance and counselling women and youth, Organising and helping women and youth, Supporting communities construct schools and churches/mosques.[1]
