Charlotte Bolton (born June 27th, 2003) is a Canadian-born Para Athlete who competes in both shot put and discus events, representing Team Canada on an international level.[1]

Career

Born in Tillsonburg, Ontario, Charlotte first gained interest in competitive sports as a ski racer. The switch to throwing events occurred in 2018 after being recognized during the 2017 Paralympian search. Once Covid-19 moved all of school online she was able to start training with Richard Parkinson at the Athletics Canada East Hub in Toronto, this is when her career was able to take off.[2]

Charlotte is the current Canadian record holder in the following three events: F41 shot put (9.05 m) earned at the Azusa Pacific University Last Chance Twilight Meet in May 2021.[3] F41 discus (29.65 m) earned at the Royal City Inferno Track & Field Festival in June 2021.[4] And F41 javelin (20.33 m) earned at the Throwers Meet #3 in Toronto August 2019.[5]

The original plan was for Bolton to Qualify for the 2024 Paris Paralympics, but with the delay of the Tokyo 2020 games and a breakthrough year[6], the young athlete was able to compete for Team Canada at the delayed Tokyo 2020 Paralympics in August of 2021.[7] At the games she had only just turned 18 and was the youngest member of the Canadian para athletics team. She placed 6th in both shot put and discus events, and is continuing to train for the 2024 games in Paris, France.

In 2023 Charlotte made the podium multiple times on the international stage, taking third place at the World Para Athletics Grand Prix in Dubai, UAE for shot put.[8] Charlotte was named to the Canadian team for the World Para Athletics championships in Paris, France in July 2023, where she would place 8th in discus and 9th in shot put against the top athletes in the world.[9] With an outstanding performance at the 2023 Parapan American Games in Santiago, Chile, Bolton placed third in the F41 discus event earning another medal for Team Canada .[10]
