Charles Gillespie (born August 26, 1998) is a Canadian actor and singer, known for starring in the Netflix series Julie and the Phantoms as Luke Patterson[1]. Previously, he gained recognition from shows and films such as Charmed (2018 TV series), Degrassi: Next Class (2017), The Rest of Us (2019) and Runt (film)(2020).
Early life
Charlie was born and raised in Dieppe, New Brunswick[2], Canada. He speaks both English and French fluently, as they are the official languages of his native state.[3]
Gillespie has three older brothers (Ryan, Patrick and Michael) and one younger sister (Meghan), all of whom have been encouraged by their mother from a young age to play instruments. When they were children, his mother (Jeanette) used to call them ‘The Gillespie Five’, as they used to play instruments and sing together. Charlie has played acoustic guitar since he was little and started playing electric guitar for his role in Julie and the Phantoms.[4]
After graduating early from high school, Gillespie moved to Toronto and later to Los Angeles to pursue acting.
Career
After gaining recognition from his main roles in Runt (film), The Rest of Us (film) and Charmed, Charlie Gillespie's breakout role came in 2020 with the part of Luke Patterson in the Netflix musical series Julie and the Phantoms. Gillespie stars alongside Jeremy Shada, Owen Joyner. Specifically, he stars alongside Madison Reyes, with whom he wrote and performed the song Perfect Harmony, which is part of the Julie and the Phantoms: Music from the Netflix Original Series soundtrack.[5]
