Charles Wu is an Australian actor, writer, and musician.[1] He is most widely known for his role as Ken Liu in the Nine Network drama Doctor Doctor (Australian TV series)|Doctor Doctor (2016-2021).[2] Wu has also made appearances in Secret City (TV series) (2016-2019), Harrow (TV series) (2018-2021), and the film Australia Day (film) (2017).[3] As a musician he performs under the stage name Earthquake Magnificent.[4]
Career
Wu studied at the National Institute of Dramatic Art, graduating in 2014.[1] Since graduating he has appeared in a number of theatre productions. These credits include Samson, Jasper Jones, An Enemy of the People, and The Overcoat: A Musical for the Belvoir St Theatre,[1] as well as The Resistible Rise of Arturo UI, Chimerica, Three Sisters, and Mosquitoes for the Sydney Theatre Company[1].
In television, Wu appeared in two episodes of Secret City (TV series) before being cast as Ken Liu in Doctor Doctor (Australian TV series).[2] Wu appeared in every episode of the series. He has since had guest roles in Here Come the Habibs!, and Harrow (TV series), and appeared in the 2017 film, Australia Day (film).[3]
Wu co-founded The Corinthian Food Store in 2012 as Co-Artistic Director with Duncan Ragg.[5] The Corinthian Food Store is an ensemble collective of artists and performers developing content for the stage and screen.[5] In 2020, they released their first web-series, Liberty Street (TV series)|Liberty Street. Wu appears in the series as the character Tait. He also created the score for the series as a composer.[5]
As a musician, Wu performs under the stage name Earthquake Magnificent.[6] He is signed to Lazy Thinking Records.[4]
