Charles J. Orlando[1][2] (born April 18, 1970) is an American author and television personality. His undercover investigation on the Ashley Madison dating website to "discover why women cheat"[3] was a viral phenomenon during the Ashley Madison data breach.

Orlando served as co-host for two seasons of the reality TV show Seven Year Switch on Lifetime.[4] His experience and investigation into online infidelity were featured in the three-part ABC News documentary "The Ashley Madison Affair (2023)."[5]

Ashley madison data breach

In an effort to understand the motivations behind why some women pursue extramarital relationships, Orlando went undercover on AshleyMadison.com and posed as a cheating husband seeking an affair[6]. He set up three fake profiles to determine which would resonate most with women on the site[7]—an investigative technique later criticized by scholars for its perhaps effective, but ultimately unethical approach to research.[8] During several interviews, Orlando the societal and sociological implications of the existence of a website like Ashley Madison as well as the culture implications that continued to arise from the data breach itself.[9][10]

Eight years after the data breach, ABC News released a three-part documentary that delved into previously unknown details about the hack as well as detailed accounts, personal stories, and experiences.[11][12] During his multipart interview, Orlando shared details about the fallout in his own marriage.

Books

Orlando has authored six books, primarily focused on relationship psychology, self-esteem, the intricacies of human connection, and the "intersection where technology and romance collide."[13]
