Charles Henry Alston was a lawyer in Tampa, Florida. He was born in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Deaton and Lydia Alston were his parents.[1] He studied at Shaw University.[1] He was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1894.[2]

Alston became a political leader of Tampa’s African American community.[3] He challenged the exclusion of African Americans from juries in Florida.[1] He served as Hillsborough County's Supervisor of Negro Schools.[1]

Booker T. Washington lauded him, George W. Parker, and Isaac Purcell as respected lawyers in the South.[4][5] In January 1907, he and George W. Parker appealed the case of Charles Johnson to the Florida Supreme Court (Johnson v. State).[6]

He attended a convention of Republican “bolters” supporting Teddy Roosevelt.[7][8] He accused white Republicans of discrimination in choosing delegates. He led a group that produced its own list of delegates.[8][9]

He subscribed to the Central Law Journal.[10]
