The 14th floor Incident
On 12 January 2024, following the public outcry after Department of Corrections allowed Thaksin Shinnawatra (an inmate at the time) to be treated and held at a hospital and not sent back to prison. Mr Chaichana stormed the hospital with the Police Affairs Committee to find out whether the inmate was truly in a 'life threatening condition'[12]. The aftermath saw Mr Chaichana questioning "the Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin to use the 2 million used for the Prime Minister’s international trip to repair the surveillance cameras in the building, which have not been working for several years, both in the building and in the surrounding area."[12]
Actions Against Call-Centre Gangs & Chinese Grey Businesses
Mr Chaichana received various complaints from Phuket locals regarding Chinese businessmen operating in car rental services, but cut-cornered by using fake licenses and plates, offering lower cost than the honest Thai businesses, ultimately pushing the locals off the market. Following this, Mr Chaichana sent a warning to all relevant authorities to immediately deal with this issue to preserve Thai businesses.[10]
Thailand has been facing problems with Call-Centre gangs operating on the Cambodian border, notably Poipet region. Multiple Thai citizens have been defrauded and some have lost lives due to the predatorial and illegal acts of these gangs[13].
