Chad D. Reineke, AIA, RIBA, IIDA, NCARB (born April 4, 1984, Toledo, Ohio) is an American architect, educator, and author. He is the Chief Operating Officer at Lightroom, an interdisciplinary architecture and design firm based in Atlanta, Georgia.[1] Reineke is known for his contributions to design-build education, technical documentation standards, and civic-minded design. His projects have received awards from AIA Georgia, AIA Atlanta, and the Urban Land Institute. He was a featured lecturer and exhibitor at the 2025 Venice Architecture Biennale.[2]

Early life and education

Reineke was born in Toledo, Ohio, and raised in South Detroit. He holds an Associate of Arts and a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from Bowling Green State University, and a Bachelor of Architecture from Southern Polytechnic State University (now part of Kennesaw State University).[3] Prior to attending architecture school, he worked as a carpenter—an experience that continues to inform his design sensibility and material literacy.[3]

Career

Reineke serves as Chief Operating Officer at Lightroom, where he leads operations, design development, and project delivery.[1] His work spans residential, hospitality, institutional, and civic architecture, with notable projects including Alpharetta City Center, Moxy Hotel Asheville, Roosevelt Hall, and Twelve on Berne.[4] He previously held senior roles at Meticulous Design + Architecture, The Preston Partnership, Moody Nolan, and Dynamik Design.

From 2018 to 2023, Reineke was a part-time Assistant Professor at Kennesaw State University, teaching structures, environmental systems, design communication, and professional practice. His academic work integrates technical rigor with design-build pedagogy.

In 2025, Reineke co-presented a lecture titled Digital Fabrication and the Design Build Studio at the Venice Architecture Biennale, hosted by the European Cultural Centre as part of its Time Space Existence series.[5]

Research and publications

Reineke is a research assistant Dr. William Carpenter, FAIA who authored *Digital Fabrication and the Design Build Studio* (Routledge, 2022), adding content related to design-build thinking, fabrication, and pedagogical practice. He is currently developing a book on Architectural Phenomenology in collaboration with Dr. William Carpenter, FAIA, blending theory, architecture, and sound composition.
