Cassie Henderson (born 8 November 1998) is a New Zealand singer-songwriter from Christchurch. She first gained public recognition as a contestant on the inaugural season of The X Factor New Zealand in 2013, where she reached the quarter-finals at age 14.
Early life
Henderson was born in Christchurch, New Zealand. She began singing and playing guitar at age nine and spent her teenage years busking in Christchurch.[1]
Career
2013: The X Factor New Zealand
Henderson first entered the public eye as a contestant on the first season of The X Factor New Zealand in 2013, reaching the quarter-finals at age 14.
2020–2021: Early singles and Sony Music
Henderson released her debut single "Tainted" independently on 22 April 2020.[2] She subsequently signed with Sony Music New Zealand, releasing "Burns Brighter" on 20 November 2020, and "Complacent" on 5 November 2021.[3]
2023–present: Independent career and EP trilogy
After departing from Sony Music, Henderson returned to releasing music independently. She released her debut EP, The Pink Chapter, on 15 September 2023. Its lead single "Whatever", released on 2 June 2023, topped New Zealand radio charts for 12 consecutive weeks, an achievement unmatched by a New Zealand female artist since Lorde in 2017.[4]
Henderson's second EP, The Yellow Chapter, was released on 16 August 2024. The lead single "Seconds to Midnight (11:59)" reached number 3 on the NZ Top 40 Singles Chart[5] and broke her previous airplay record, topping the New Zealand radio charts for 15 weeks.[6] These EPs form part of a planned trilogy titled The Chronicles of a Heart Broken, exploring themes of heartache and healing.[7]
Henderson has performed at major New Zealand festivals, including Rhythm and Vines, Rhtyhm and Alps, Homegrown and Electric Avenue.[8]
Personal life
In 2023, Henderson left a career in marketing to pursue music full-time in Auckland.[9]
