The term "cash management" covers a wide range of financial activities including the acquisition, storage, and disposition of physical currency. Market liquidity, cash flow, and investments are all factors to be taken into consideration.

The phrase "cash management" or "treasury management" is used in banking to describe a range of services aimed at managing a company's cash flow. All bank accounts (such as checking accounts) supplied to companies of the appropriate size may be referred to by this term, although it is more often used to denote particular services, such as the storage of funds in a clearing house or zero balance accounting. In certain cases, private banking clients are provided cash management services.

Money market funds, Treasury notes, and certificates of deposit all play a role in cash management.
