Carmen Gloria Pérez[1][2] (born October 25, 1980 in The Bronx, New York) is a Puerto Rican-American actor, artist, writer,[3] filmmaker who served in the United States Army.[4][5][6] Pérez has over 60 acting credits and is best known for the role of Linda on the Swedish Netflix[7][8] original series, Young Royals and Captain Vasquez on Lucha Underground.[9][10][11][12]

Early life and education

Pérez was born on October 25, 1980, in The Bronx, New York.[13] When she was 10 years old, her parents divorced, and she moved with her mother to Puerto Rico.

At the age of 17, Pérez joined the U.S. Army[14] where she held a clearance to work at The Pentagon with the Department of Defense (DOD), as well as closely with the United States Treasury. After six years of active military service both overseas and in Washington, D.C., Pérez was honorably discharged as a Sergeant (E-5) with many awards.[15]

She then earned a Bachelor’s Degree from George Mason University in Government & International Politics with a minor in Legal Studies.[16] Just before graduating, Pérez enrolled in a weekend acting class, leading her to pursue her career as an actor.[17][18][19]

Career

Pérez has two decades experience in the entertainment industry and has been an actor on Nip/Tuck, He’s Just Not That Into You, Everybody Hates Chris, The Shield, A Man Apart, among others. Pérez is also a popular author and illustrator of the Kid Astronomy book series, which has gained mass public recognition. As a jazz singer, she released her EP in 2018 titled The Art Of Love,[20][21][22][23] which was nominated Best Jazz EP by the Independent Music Awards 2019. Her songs Emergency and Overload, with Dauman Music,[24][25][26] were ranked Top 40 in the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play and UK Pop charts. In addition, a music piece she co-composed with late British producer Matt Powell, Pajarito, is also featured in the popular lounge/chillout series, Café Del Mar ~ Dreams 9 album (2016).

Pérez is the recipient of the Valley Theatre League ADA Best Supporting Actress Award for her role in the play Soldiers Don’t Cry by Layon Gray. She has been featured in several media outlets for her achievements as a diverse artist including All About Jazz, Billboard,[27] Latina Style Magazine,[28] and others.[29][30][31][32][33][34]
