Carly-Jay Metcalfe (born 1977) is a writer of memoir, poetry, and literary fiction from Queensland, Australia. Metcalfe was born with Cystic Fibrosis. She had a double lung transplant at the age of 21, and survived a rare cancer at the age of 30.
Her memoir Breath[1] was published by University of Queensland Press in 2024. It has received widespread critical acclaim from noted literary critics and writers such as Caroline Overington (The Australian)[2], Cass Moriarty[3], Fiona Wright[4], and others.[5][6]
She has spoken and written on her life with Cystic Fibrosis, advocacy of organ donation and transplantation, and the need to have more honest conversations about death. Metcalfe delivered a TED-X talk in 2014.[7] Her views on these topics have garnered frequent and widespread national media attention.[8][9][10][11][12][13][14]
