Carlos Robercio Pereira is a Brazilian inventor and pioneer in vehicle connectivity systems. In 1987, he filed the patent Sistema Eletrônico de Identificação Automática de Veículos Automotores (Electronic Vehicle Identification System, PI8700599-9) with the Brazilian Patent Office (INPI). The invention described an early concept of electronic communication between vehicles and external systems, anticipating what is now known as V2X (Vehicle-to-Everything) technology.[1]
Career and inventions
On February 2, 1987, Pereira submitted the patent application PI8700599-9, outlining a system for real-time vehicle identification and communication with external control centers.[1] In 2007, he expanded the concept with the patent PI0700393-5, titled Integrated System for Generating, Capturing and Presenting Diverse Information Applied to Motor Vehicles, describing a multimedia device connected to IoT vehicle networks and smart city infrastructure.[2]
Recognition
In 1993, Pereira was awarded at an international contest promoted by SUCESUSP, PRODESP, and the COMDEX South America trade fair, recognizing his pioneering work in automotive technology.[3] In 2025, the SUCESU-SP published an official press release acknowledging Pereira as one of the pioneers of vehicle connectivity in Brazil.[4]
Legacy
Pereira’s contributions anticipated global trends in connected mobility, years before commercial solutions like General Motors’ OnStar (launched in 1996 in the United States). His patents and projects are part of the early history of V2X technologies, now considered a foundation for intelligent transportation systems.[4]
