Carlos Hernandez is the author of middle grades[1] novel Sal and Gabi Break the Universe and its subsequent sequel Sal and Gabi Fix the Universe, both of which are part of the "Rick Riordan Presents" publishing imprint.[2]

Personal Life

Hernandez is an associate professor at the City University of New York (CUNY), where he teaches English. He is also a game designer for MobyGames.[3]

Writing

According the Hernandez, his original intentions were not to write for children. "Actually, it wasn’t one of my aspirations," says Hernandez in an interview with Publishers Weekly. "I have a PhD in English, and I always thought I’d end up writing literary science fiction or fantasy for a small audience, and if it was critically well-received, that would be okay with me."[4]

While the series sets up antagonists, the Sal and Gabi series is the only series in the "Rick Riordan Presents" publishing imprint that goes not establish a proper "villain."
