Carla Marie Manly is an American clinical psychologist and author based in Sonoma County, California.[1][2] [3] [4]Her work focuses on relationship psychology and emotional well-being, including topics such as communication, attachment theory, and self-esteem.[1][5][6]

In her clinical work, Manly addresses anxiety, trauma, and relationship issues using methods such as cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, EMDR, and mindfulness techniques.[7][8][6]

Education

Manly earned a Bachelor of Education from the University of San Diego, a Master of Counseling with a focus on Pupil Personnel Services from Sonoma State University, and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute.[1][9]

Clinical psychology

Manly’s clinical work includes couples therapy, relationship issues, and treatment of anxiety, trauma, and related psychological conditions.[8][10][6] Her approach combines elements of Jungian psychology, attachment theory, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR).[10]

Manly has worked as a mental health consultant, including contributing to a series of educational books on mental health disorders published by Reference Point Press: Dealing with Anxiety Disorder[11], Dealing with Self-Injury Disorder [12], Dealing with Bipolar Disorder [13], Dealing with Gender Dysphoria [14], Dealing with Psychotic Disorders [15], and Dealing with Eating Disorders [16]

In 2019, Manly released her first book Joy from Fear: Create the Life of Your Dreams by Making Fear Your Friend (Familius), which examines the role of fear in personal growth[35][36][37][38] [39].The same year, she published Aging Joyfully: A Women’s Guide to Optimal Health, Relationships, and Fulfillment for her 50s and Beyond (Familius), addressing the challenges of aging. [40][36][41] Both books received the Mom’s Choice Award for the Adult Books Category.[42] In 2021, she released Date Smart: Transform Your Relationships & Love Fearlessly (Familius), focusing on relationship issues and strategies for improvement.
