Carl D’Alvia (Born October 23 1965) Is an American sculptor. He lives and works in West Cornwall, Connecticut.

Early Life

D'Alvia was born in Sleepy Hollow NY, October 23, 1965. Eldest child of Marlene Beisser and Raymond D'Alvia. He Grew up in Croton-on-Hudson, NY, then went on to study sculpture at Rhode Island School of Design where he met his wife, painter Jackie Saccoccio.

Work

D’Alvia is known for his seamless blending of such contradictory elements as minimal/ornate, comic/tragic, and industrial/handmade in a post-pop meticulously crafted paradigm. Compared to traditional public statuary, D’Alvia’s pieces have a bizarre imagination. His formal skill—what he calls “extreme craft”—lends an unexpected authority to pulp themes.[1] Though he wears his scholarship lightly, D'Alvia is adept at the semaphores of 20th-century sculpture.[2] The resin, bronze and marble sculptures range from the abstract and geometric to the figurative and anthropomorphic, each exploring themes such as craft, and veiling, and baroque surface through humor and playfulness.[3] In 2012 he won the Rome prize and has had numerous solo and group exhibitions internationally including at the American Academy in Rome, Italy[4] and The Rhode Island School of Design Museum in Providence, Rhode Island.
