Calev Ben-David (Hebrew language: כלב בן-דוד‎; born February 7, 1962) is a US-born American-Israeli journalist, author and speaker.[1] He is the anchor of `The Rundown'[2], a nightly current affairs program broadcast from Tel Aviv on the i24NEWS network. Previously, he had been the Managing Editor of The Jerusalem Post[3] and Israel Bureau Chief for Bloomberg News.

Biography

Ben-David was born in Brooklyn and raised in North Woodmere, New York. He immigrated to Israel in 1985. He served in the Artillery Corps of the Israeli Defense Forces. He and his wife Eva have two children and live in Jerusalem.

Journalism career

Ben-David worked for The Jerusalem Post from 1988 to 1990 as Jerusalem police correspondent and a film and arts writer. He then worked at The Jerusalem Report, where he was the Arts Editor from 1991 to 1996. In 1997, Ben-David rejoined the Post as Magazine Editor and columnist, and was promoted to Managing Editor from 2002 to 2005.

In 2005 Ben-David was hired by Israel Project[4], a Washington-based pro-Israel advocacy, to establish an office in Jerusalem. He served as the Director of The Israel Project's Jerusalem Office until 2007.

In 2008 he was appointed as Bureau Chief of the Israel office for Bloomberg News. He later served as the bureau's Senior Diplomatic Correspondent before leaving Bloomberg in 2016.

In 2016 Ben-David joined i24NEWS as a news anchor, and from 2017 has hosted its flagship nightly news program 'The Rundown', from 8-9pm Israel time.

Ben-David has also written for many publications around the world, including Variety (magazine), The Irish Times, The Independent[5], The Jewish Chronicle, Working Woman (magazine). He has been an interviewee on Israel Broadcasting Authority, CNN, the BBC, NPR and many other TV and radio stations.

Ben-David was a contributing author to The Jerusalem Report's 1996 biography of Yitzhak Rabin, Shalom, Friend: The Life and Legacy of Yitzhak Rabin, which won the US National Jewish Book Award for Non-Fiction. In 2000 he won a Simon Rockower Award[6] for Jewish Journalism for an article in Moment (magazine). He has taught journalism at the Reichman University School of Communications.
