Caleb Jacobson (born 1984) is an American clinical psychologist, sex therapist, and biblical scholar whose work focuses on the relationship between sexuality and religion. He has published multiple books on Sex Therapy, Biblical Studies, and the integration of Psychology and Theology. Jacobson is the President of the International Association of Psychosexual Therapists.
Early life and education
Jacobson was born in the United States. Before pursuing psychology, he performed as a mandolin player, singer, and songwriter, recording with musicians including Del McCoury and Charlie Daniels.[1] He later completed bachelor’s degrees in religion and psychology, followed by four master’s degrees.
During graduate studies, Jacobson spent time in Israel, where he studied biblical texts and archaeology which initiated a gradual turn toward greater religious observance. He went on to earn a Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) in clinical psychology and later moved to Mainz, Germany, in 2018 to pursue a doctorate in Hebrew Bible, biblical archaeology, and psychological exegesis at the University of Mainz under Wolfgang Zwickel. He received rabbinic ordination in 2025.
Career
Jacobson works as a clinical psychologist specializing in psychosexual therapy, with an emphasis on integrating spiritual and cultural identity into clinical care. His practice has included patients from Jewish, Christian, and Muslim backgrounds.[2] His clinical focus includes male sexual dysfunctions and as well as rare and complex sexual issues.

Controversy
In 2023, Jacobson wrote an open letter to the board of the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT) expressing concerns about antisemitism in the organization following the Israel–Hamas conflict. The letter was co-signed by 26 colleagues, including Peggy Kleinplatz, Laurie Mintz, and Jim Pfaus.[7] Jacobson was later quoted in Tablet Magazine criticizing the organization’s handling of the issue.[8] Following this, he and other colleagues withdrew from AASECT and established the International Association of Psychosexual Therapists.
Awards and recognition
In 2025, Jacobson received the Publication of the Year Award from the International Association of Psychosexual Therapists (IAPST).[9]
