C. William (Bill) Cosgrove is an American businessman and philanthropist. He is owner and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Union Home Mortgage Corp. (UHM), a mortgage banking company based in Strongsville, Ohio. In 2025, he became a co-owner of the Tampa Bay Rays.[1]

Career

Cosgrove joined Union National Mortgage in 1994 and purchased the company in 1999.[2]

In 2022, Cosgrove became owner of Lea Farms, a thoroughbred racing company[3] whose horses have competed in graded stakes races, including the Breeders’ Cup Sprint[4] and the Kentucky Oaks qualifying circuit.[5]

In 2022, Cosgrove purchased the Medina Country Club in Ohio[6], announcing renovations and a reversible nine-hole course in 2025.[7]

In 2025, Cosgrove joined an investment group led by Patrick Zalupski that acquired Major League Baseball’s Tampa Bay Rays. He serves as partner and co-chairman alongside Zalupski and Ken Babby.[8]

Philanthropy

Cosgrove established the Union Home Mortgage Foundation, which supports housing and financial literacy. In 2020, the foundation contributed $235,000 to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame to support employees affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.[9]

Cosgrove has supported community sports programs, including youth baseball with the Cleveland Guardians[10] and sponsorship of the Union Home Mortgage Gasparilla Bowl in Tampa, Florida.[11]

In 2021, Cosgrove and his family donated $1.25 million to the Southwest General Health System to establish the Cosgrove Maternity Center, a neonatal care facility.[12]

Recognition

He was named an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year in the East Central Region in 2020.[13] In 2024, he was recognized on Cleveland Magazine’s “Cleveland 500."[14]

Personal life

Cosgrove lives in Sharon Township, Ohio[15], and Venice, Florida, with his wife. They have three adult children.[16]
