Punter Thomas Morstead lines up to punt, the snap is fine, the catch was fine, there was no reason to doubt that the punt would go wrong. A second later, it hit in to the butt of WR Trent Sherfield ending up in a safety.[6]

After the Butt Punt

Buffalo gets the ball back, takes a long time to get down the field, and gets a penalty, this stops the clock. With 18 seconds left, Josh Allen passes to Isaiah McKenzie for a 12 yard gain, the only problem was that Buffalo was out of timeouts, and McKenzie fought for more yards instead of running out of bounds, which would have stopped the clock. The clock kept running, resulting in a win for Miami. Offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey got mad and threw his papers, getting caught on TV. This made a famous meme.[7]
