Nnabugwu George Ugochukwu Onyeyirichi Thompson (born July 10, 1992, Los Angeles), also known as Bugus, is a Nigerian-American rapper, songwriter, and record producer. After creating music in his basement at 16, Bugus began his career in 2010 with the release of his EP, Bugus(Demo). Following the release, Bugus had his first show and then had his second show as an opener for Cyhi the Prince, Yelawolf, and Big Krit after Bugus had toured in Germany in 2019, and in 2023, toured the United Kingdom. Outside of his solo career, he is part of the Atlanta-based hip-hop collective DIEMON, which is an acronym for Do It Everyday Music or Nothing.[1][2][3]

Early life

Nnabugwu Thompson was born on July 10, 1992, in Los Angeles, California. Both of Thompson's parents are from Nigeria; his father, Obi Thompson, is from Abia State, and his mother, Ebele Thompson, is from Enugu State.

Thompson, was given "Bugus" as a childhood nickname, and carried it into his career as a rapper.

Thompson grew up with a heavy interest in sports, especially basketball and football. He was also interested in music since childhood, and began his professional career at 17 years old, creating music in the basement with his friends.

To pursue his career, Thompson attended Morehouse College. He graduated in 2010, at the age of 18, with a Bachelor's degree in Film and TV.

Career

Bugus produced his first EP, “Bugus Demo,” in 2010.

After experimenting with music for two years, in 2011, from his parent's basement, Bugus co-founded DIEMON with the rapper Russ (a childhood classmate and friend). DIEMON is a record label and creative collective. It stands for Do It Everyday Music Or Nothing.[1][4]

Musical style and influences

Bugus stated that he grew up listening to Lil Wayne since he was 6-7 and that Wayne is his favorite rapper. As for his musical style, Bugus focuses on lyrical content and mindfulness.[5]
