Bryce Fleming (born 8 December 1979) is an Australian allied health practitioner, public speaker, wellness coach, and author. He is currently the Principal Chiropractor at Alignment Chiropractic[1], Sydney, and the CEO of the Alignment Health Network.[2]
Early life
Fleming was born on 8 December 1979 in Sandringham, Melbourne, Victoria, to John Fleming and Colette Mitchell (née Jackson). His parents migrated from England to Australia in 1971. He has one half-brother, Toby Fleming, who is ten years his junior.
According to his book,[3] he struggled with obesity during his schooling years, which was aggravated by his junk food addiction, excessive video gaming, and limited outdoor recreation.
In high school, he realised that his high-carb, high-fat British diet was contributing to his weight issues. Upon hearing from the television that he would have to lower his fat intake to lose weight, he adopted a low-fat, calorie-restricted dietary regimen and began to cook his own meals. His strict new diet led to considerable weight loss, sparking concern among school authorities and family who suspected substance abuse.
His drastic weight loss culminated in colds, flus, fatigue, mood swings, muscle atrophy, constipation, insomnia, body pain, and low testosterone. His endocrinologist even predicted that Fleming might not be able to have children.
Education
Primary and high school
Fleming completed his primary schooling at St Rose Catholic Primary School in Collaroy Plateau. Between 1992 and 1997, he studied at Killarney Heights High School, where he was Vice Captain during the 1996–1997 academic year. In this period, he participated in and won New South Wales state-wide taekwondo championships.
University
Fleming's ill health and weight issues stimulated his fascination with healthcare research. He decided to study health subjects at university, but his high school grades set him back. He unsuccessfully applied to several universities that rejected him due to a perceived lack of academic dedication.
His importunity finally swayed Macquarie University to accept him into their Bachelor of Computer Science programme in 2000. During his freshman year, he earned the required GPA to transition to health sciences.
After a period of indecision regarding his healthcare specialisation, Fleming settled on chiropractic after a positive encounter with a chiropractor who performed a neck adjustment following some minor martial arts injuries. He graduated with a Master’s in Chiropractic (MChiro) in 2006, taking seven years instead of five.
Career
Chiropractic
Fleming began his career in 2005 at Innate Health Chiropractic in Parramatta a year after his graduation. He moved on to Healing Wave Chiropractic at The Junction in April 2006, where he practised till December 2015.
Since January 2016, he has been the Principal Chiropractor at Alignment Chiropractic in Milsons Point, Sydney, where he treats back pain, neck pain, frozen shoulder, poor posture, and sciatica. His clientele comprises senior citizens, adults, professionals, children, teenagers, athletes, and expecting mothers. He follows the vitalistic philosophy of chiropractic. As of August 2023, he has delivered more than 88,400 chiropractic treatments, averaging 100 a week.
In March 2016, Fleming launched the Alignment Health Network, a consortium of medical and allied health professionals who contribute funds to create a credit pool for the employees of selected beneficiary companies to access a wide range of healthcare services. The collective aims to reduce the strain on the broader healthcare system by focusing on proactive healthcare initiatives.
Coaching
Fleming developed the Re-Alignment Experience[4] after 26 years of research and 18 years of clinical experience. It is an intensive, experiential, holistic healthcare programme focusing on self-discovery, confidence, stress reduction, nutrition, fitness, and personal alignment with life's purpose. It combines principles from epigenetics, applied neuroscience, biophysics, human physiology, and philosophy.
Writing
Fleming co-authored Four Weeks to Wellness: A Commonsense Guide to the Paleo Lifestyle with Terry O’Connor, a former healthcare marketing CEO. It was published by Halstead Press in 2016. The book explores the relationship between a healthy diet, exercise, and overall well-being.
Public speaking
In 2018, Fleming spoke about his early health struggles in a talk called 'Dare to trust your gut' at the TEDx Youth event in Abbotsleigh.[5]
Disc jockeying
From 2004 to 2012, Fleming was one of the resident DJs at Tracks Nightclub in the Epping Hotel. He had another residency at the now defunct Retro Hotel on Sussex Street between 2015 and 2019. He has also played at The Arthouse Hotel on Pitt Street, Greenwood Hotel in North Sydney, Mrs Sippy in Double Bay, and Home The Venue in Darling Harbour.
Fleming played for a crowd of 8,000 at Macquarie University’s Conception Day 2005 and did the warm-up set for Soul Central at Gas Works Nightclub in Albion Hotel, Parramatta, in 2006.
His SoundCloud account has demos of 90s disco, tech house, deep house, and commercial house music.[6]
Personal life
Fleming was married to Alison Marie Gabrielides, with whom he has two daughters, Mali and Jasmine.[7] They separated on 24 August 2020. He has a 12-year-old British Shorthair called Jinx.
He follows a paleolithic diet and lifestyle. In 2008, he obtained his CrossFit Level 1 certification. He plays golf recreationally.
