Bruno Bérard (born in Nancy, France, October 28, 1958) is a French thinker, essayist, and metaphysician.
Doctor of École Pratique des Hautes Études, in Religions and Thought Systems; he devotes his reflection to metaphysics, to Christian mysticism as well as to the synthesis and dissemination of the thought of Jean Borella.
Biography
Bruno Bérard is the son of the French philosopher André Bérard aka Pamphile, poet laureate of the French Academy, disseminator of yoga in France, professor of oriental philosophy, close to Jean Borella, Lanza del Vasto et François Chenique.[1].
After a youth spent in Nancy, he followed his parents to Paris, where he studied at the Lycée Janson-de-Sailly then at the Académie Commerciale Internationale, where he graduates in Commercial Studies and get a special certificate in Foreign Trade.
Alongside an international professional career in the aeronautics industry, he has taught in several business schools, with the Ministry of Industry, has become an expert with National Agency for Research Promotion (ANVAR) and assists young entrepreneurs on a voluntary basis in the creation or the development of their activities.
Education
He obtains a Diplôme Supérieur d’Études Commerciales, and a Certificat Spécial de Commerce Extérieur, before enrolling at Paris-Sud University, in 1999 in view of a DEA (master) of economy (globalization).
On January 16 2015, he defends his thesis, carried out under the supervision of Jean-Pierre Brach, “Un philosophe et théologien occultisant au XIXe siècle : la vie et l’œuvre de l’abbé Paul François Gaspard Lacuria (1806-1890)”[2] and becomes doctor of the École Pratique des Hautes Études.
Writing
In 1986, he begins to study metaphysics and discovers “the eminent place occupied by Jean Borella”[3], whose friendship he gradually gains as well as that of François Chenique[4].
He then continues to write articles and books on metaphysics; he is asked for some prefaces and directs the writing of collective books.
As of 2018, his first articles and books are published in the United States[5] [6]and in Italy[7] [8].
Editing
After two first books published by L’Harmattan (2005, 2006), he facilitates the transfer from L’ ge d’Homme of the Delphica series, which became Théôria, and to which he still collaborates[9]. In parallel, L’Harmattan’s director, Denis Pryen, encourages him to create a collection there: “Métaphysique au quotidien”[10] (daily life metaphysics) with the first publication, Souvenirs métaphysiques d’Orient et d’Occident (2009) (Metaphysical memories from East and West) by François Chenique, then other authors like Jean Borella, the painter and metaphysician Georges Brunon, or the mathematician, physicist and metaphysician Wolfgang Smith. Recently, he facilitates the hosting of the journal Politica Hermetica.
There, he directs collective works, such as Qu’est-ce que la métaphysique ? (What is metaphysics ?), Métaphysique et psychanalyse (Metaphysics and psychoanalysis), Physique et métaphysique (Physics and metaphysics), Métaphysique des contes de fées (Metaphysics of the fairy tales) Métaphysique pour tous (Metaphysics for everyone).
His own works are not published in Théôria, nor in “Métaphysique au quotidien”, but in the series “Ouverture philosophique” or “Religions and spirituality”.
Philosophy
His metaphysics “is a metaphysical mystic, that is to say, formally, a metaphysics, but, fundamentally, a Christian mysticism”[11]. It is based on the fundamental distinction between reason and intelligence, a distinction that reopens modern thought to religion.
This distinction is not new, it goes back to Plato and Aristotle and, simply, marks what belongs to calculation and reasoning (reason) and what belongs to understanding, to sense (intelligence). This sense is uncreatable, it is received in the intelligence like a reflection in a mirror.
From there, he applies metaphysical thought to many subjects, including paradox, fairy tales, psychoanalysis, physics, sex (“with the idea of renewing that of Julius Evola, published in 1958”), democracy... with the aim of offering access to metaphysics to as many people as possible. The book Métaphysique pour tous pursues this objective[12].
The study of paradoxes and the limits of knowledge led him to propose a Métaphysique du paradoxe[13] (Metaphysics of Paradox) according to which, to the paradoxality of what is to be known corresponds a paradoxical modality of knowing.
A good connoisseur of the metaphysician Jean Borella (1930), he presented a synthesis of his work to date[14]
