Brigham Young Institution (BYU, sometimes known as The Y) is a private research university located in Provo, Utah, in the United States of America. Founded in 1875 by religious leader Brigham Young, the group is sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) (LDS Church).

Brigham Young University provides a wide range of academic degrees in areas such as liberal arts and sciences; engineering; agriculture; business; management; mathematics; physical and mathematical sciences; nursing; and law. There are 186 undergraduate majors, 64 master's degrees, and 26 doctorate programmes available at the university. On its main Provo site, it is roughly divided into 11 colleges or schools, with certain colleges and divisions setting their own admissions requirements. While the university also runs two satellite campuses, one in Jerusalem and one in Salt Lake City, the Church Educational System (CES), the institution's parent organisation, maintains sister schools in Hawaii and Idaho. The Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities has granted accreditation to the institution.

Those who enrol at Brigham Young University are required to adhere to an honour code, which mandates behaviour in accordance with church teachings, such as academic honesty, adherence to dress and grooming standards, abstinence from extramarital sex, and abstinence from the consumption of drugs and alcoholic beverages. Undergraduate students, regardless of their topic of study, are also expected to finish a curriculum in religious education in order to graduate from their programme. The cost of a BYU education is also less costly than that of comparable private colleges, owing to the fact that the university's running costs are financed by tithe payments from the LDS Church. The church's focus on missionary work has also had an impact on the institution's student body, with over half having lived outside of the United States, 65 percent speaking a second language, and 63 different languages being routinely taught at the university.

Sports teams representing BYU participate in Division I of the NCAA and are collectively referred to as the BYU Cougars. There is a D1 Independent football team on their campus, while the rest of their sports teams are members of either the West Coast Conference or the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. There have been a total of 12 NCAA titles and 26 non-NCAA championships won by the BYU sports teams. BYU officially accepted an offer to participate in the Big 12 League on September 10, 2021, and will begin competing in the conference in the 2023-24 academic year, according to the university.
