Brett Kugelmass is a former technology entrepreneur who's dedicated his focus to climate and energy challenges. Kugelmass received his bachelor's degree in mathematics from Stony Brook University in Stony Brook, New York and then went on to receive his master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University in 2011.

Professional Career

In 2017, Kugelmass founded The Energy Impact Center (EIC), a Washington, D.C.-based research institute focused on deep decarbonization. The Energy Impact Center analyzes and supports the solution set of tools which are able to reverse climate change.[1]

Due to his beliefs around nuclear being the world’s most vital clean energy source, Kugelmass started the Titans of Nuclear Podcast in 2018 to help educate the world through a series of podcast interviews with the greatest minds in Nuclear Energy.[2]

After receiving a lot of feedback from the community through The Energy Impact Center’s research projects and Titans of Nuclear podcast, Bret Kugelmass launched the OPEN100 project in February 2020.[3] OPEN100 is the world's first open-source blueprint for the design, construction and financing of nuclear power plants.[4] [5]

Prior to founding Energy Impact Center, Kugelmass was one of the early pioneers in commercializing drones. He founded a for-profit company by the name of Airphrame, which he later sold in 2017. Kugelmass’s earlier work includes designing a lunar rover controller for NASA, concept electric car for Panasonic, and automating solar manufacturing processes for Nanosolar.[6] [7]
