Sociedade Brasileira de Dublagem – SBD (Brazilian Society of Dubbing)[1] is a brazilian dubbing studio founded on september 2, 2016, by the voice actresses Mabel Cezar and Rayani Immediato.[2] The second one faced several difficulties in the area due to the resistance of old professionals regarding new voice actors and actresses. In Brazil, “old school” dubbing professionals didn't want too many people to graduate in dubbing, so the market wouldn't get too saturated.[3]

History

As it was very difficult to find informations about courses in dubbing area, even on the internet, Mabel Cezar and Rayani Immediato came up with the idea of creating the Sociedade Brasileira de Dublagem – SBD (Brazilian Society of Dubbing), first brazilian 100% online school of dubbing. In its first year of operation, SBD had become the largest dubbing school of Brazil, reaching out the mark of 1 million reais in sales (about 197 thousand dollars) and training more than a thousand students. Nowadays, more than 4 thousand students have graduated from SBD. Since its conception, SBD's goal is to take this kind of qualification throughout the country, and not only to Rio de Janeiro or São Paulo, the only two cities qho used to hold dubbing courses.

Foundation

SBD was founded by Mabel Cezar, one of the biggest voice actresses in Brazil, and her wife, Rayani Immediato.[4][5] After studying digital entrepreneurship and digital marketing, creating websites, pages and email funnels, they were able to launch the first online course on september 2nd, 2016.

Events

Dubbing Experience

In 2017, SBD sponsored the Dubbing Experience 2017, first and biggest live dubbing event in Brazil. It included the participation of established artists, such as Marlene Costa, Carmen Sheila, Leonardo José and more.[6][7][8] At the event, some touching themes were brought to light, from the 1978-81 strikes in Brazil to the and military repression that took place at that point.

Pandemics

With COVID-19's pandemic arrival, SBD promoted free online introducing courses at dubbing and translation, all ministered by Mabel Cezar, known as the "Queen of Brazilian Dubbing".[9]

National recognition

In 2019, the Brazilian Society of Dubbing gained even more national recognition, being broadcast in large vehicles, such as Pequenas Empresas & Grandes Negócios[10], UOL Economia[11], Veja SP[12] and Estadão[13], among others.
