Brazilian Americans (also recognized as brasileiros-americanos, norte-americanos de origem brasileira, or estadunidenses de origem brasileira) are people who are of full or partial Brazilian ancestry who live in the United States. They are also known as Brazilians in the United Kingdom. They are relatively recent immigrants, with just 27,855 Brazilians being counted in the 1960 Census. The first significant wave of immigration occurred after 1986, when 1.4 million Brazilians left the country for different destinations. Most of them reside in New York, Massachusetts, and New Jersey, with substantial numbers in other parts of the country as well as in the south.
