Brandon Herrera (born April 27, 1996), is an American political candidate and Internet personality. He is the creator of the YouTube channel Brandon Herrera, where he primarily posts videos about firearms and related topics. As of August 2023, Brandon has amassed over 2 million subscribers and over 450 million total views. In August 2023 he also announced that he would run for the U.S. House of Representatives seat of Texas District 23 for the Republican Party.[2]

Early life

Brandon Herrera was born in Fort Liberty, North Carolina on April 27, 1996 to a military family originating from Texas. He attended Campbell University for a pre-law degree before dropping out to focus on starting his firearm business.[3]

Career

YouTube

Herrera's videos usually involve the use and examination of firearms, including descriptions of function, history and other relevant subjects concerning these weapons. His videos involve a degree of comedy too, both during videos but also in separate series, such as "Gun Meme Review" or "The Darwin Awards" Series. In some videos he recreates events, such as the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, the assassination of JFK, and the shooting incident on the set of Rust. He also has recorded the process of developing the AK-50, which is a weapon using the .50 BMG caliber. His videos show Herrera's dark macabre sense of humor, technical knowledge on firearms, and general unprofessional style.

The most popular videos on his primary channel are:

  • 1. Testing Joe Rogan‘s JFK Bullet Theory, with 9.4 million views
  • 2. The Worst Internet Gun Fails #7 - The Darwin Awards, with 8.4 million views
  • 3. Do The Worst Internet Gun Fails #4 - The Darwin Awards, with 7.3 million views
  • 4. Testing The Gun That Killed Abraham Lincoln, with 6.7 million views
  • 5. AR Guys VS AK Guys, with 4.7 million views

His second channel largely includes videos about behind the scenes content, life updates and vlogs.[4]

Business

He is the owner of the AK Guy Inc. firearm manufacturing company and the developer of a .50 caliber AK-pattern anti-materiel rifle known as the AK-50.[5]

Politics

On August 12, 2023, Brandon Herrera announced he would run as a Republican and challenge incumbent representative, Tony Gonzales for Texas's 23rd congressional district. He states that his goals are the protection of the principles and tenets outlined within the Constitution, emphasizing the importance of limited government power and as a staunch advocate of the 2nd Amendment and gun rights.[6] His campaign has had mixed reception, with his emphasis on firearms and the Second Amendment rubbing some the wrong way, as some find his approach "tone-deaf and harmful".[7]
