Brandon Dorman is an American illustrator and author known for his contributions to children's literature, particularly in book cover art and picture books. He has illustrated covers for notable series such as Goosebumps, Fablehaven, and The Land of Stories. Dorman is also the author and illustrator of the middle-grade chapter book Hoolie and the Hooligans: The Alien Who Ate My Socks.[1]
Early Life and Education
Dorman grew up near Tacoma, Washington, where he developed an early interest in art. His artistic journey began in the fourth grade when he painted Halloween-themed window displays for his neighbors.[2] He pursued formal education in art and graduated from Brigham Young University–Idaho in 2005 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fine Art and Illustration.[3]
Career
Dorman is best known for his work as a book illustrator, particularly for cover art in fantasy and children's literature. His illustrations have appeared on the covers of the Goosebumps series by R.L. Stine, Fablehaven by Brandon Mull, and The Land of Stories by Chris Colfer, among others.[4] In addition to cover art, he has illustrated numerous picture books, including The Wizard by Jack Prelutsky, which became a #1 New York Times bestseller.[5]
Dorman has also written and illustrated his own book, Hoolie and the Hooligans: The Alien Who Ate My Socks, marking his debut as an author.[6]
Personal Life
Dorman resides in Washington with his wife, Emily, and their five children.[7] He is a Seattle Seahawks fan and enjoys playing flag football. He also lived in the Philippines for two years.[8]
