Brad Cooney is an American author and United States Navy veteran. He became established in the world of professional boxing as a field journalist. His writing has been featured in the comprehensive book, "Let's Talk Boxing," as well as in magazine articles. He gained additional notoriety with his involvement in a particularly successful pair of documentaries that are based on a home affiliated with dramatic paranormal occurrences.
Early Life
Cooney grew up in New York State, but now resides in Mississippi.[1]
Career
While regularly active on the professional boxing scene, Cooney decided to write a book comprised of interviews with well-known fighters, combined with some of his commentary on the sport. More of his boxing themed writing was also featured in published articles. His eventual participation in the boxing world came as a result of him deciding to research the life of professional boxer, Gerry Cooney. While online, (Brad) Cooney discovered material about the heavyweight boxer written by a particular writer. (Brad) Cooney decided to reach out to that writer, the two became friends, and the correspondence wound up leading to Cooney becoming a voice in the boxing world. He also spearheaded the website, 8countnews.com, and his journalistic approach was heavily geared towards giving fans and readers a better understanding of boxers as human individuals.[2] His legacy work also involves a person-to-person interview with Evander Holyfield.[3]
In more recent years, Cooney has been involved in film productions that focus on paranormal themes. He has held investigative duties at the home of Alice Jackson.[4] He first learned of the events reported about her home by way of a news segment on one of his local television stations. Along with Alice Jackson and John Bullard, Cooney would go on to be featured in the two-part documentary, "The House In Between."[5] Both documentaries were pioneered by Steve Gonsalves, who has been a regular cast member on the TV series, "Ghost Hunters," "Ghost Hunters Academy," and, "Ghost Nation." [6] Kendall Whelpton, who held cinematography duties on, "Ghost Hunters," co-directed the dual documentaries with Gonsalves. [7] Both Part 1 and Part 2 of, "The House In Between," documentaries include Cooney as a cast member and as an investigator.[8][9]
