History

Established in 1888 in Oyonnax, France, Bollé was founded by Seraphin Bollé In 1925 the Bollé company began production of celluloid glasses. In 1936, Maurice and Robert Bollé created the Bollé crown symbol which is the company logo on all products. After the Second World War, Bollé was among the first companies to use molded nylon, with sunglasses featuring protective lenses that became the latest in eyewear protection By the 1950s, Bollé began production of safety goggles[2] In 1960, Bollé introduced its first dedicated ski goggles[3]. The Bollé Safety division worked alongside the French Army, Navy and Aerospace to develop safety goggles and ballistic eyewear. In the 1970s Bollé continued to invest in and develop protective eyewear and with developments such as anti-fog and anti-glare lenses, the eye protection industry expanded. In 1981, Bollé created its Tactical Ballistic Division and launched its prescription programme. Bollé’s protection division eventually moved into PPE eyewear for industrial work environments which then led to the creation of Bollé Safety in 1994. A&M Capital Europe (“AMCE”), a London based private equity firm, acquired Bollé Safety as part of the Bollé portfolio from Vista Outdoor Inc.[4] in 2018, AMCE appointed a new management team headed by Peter Smith as CEO of Bollé Brands and President of Bollé Safety. AMCE created the holding company Bollé Brands to bring the Bollé business units including Bollé Safety under the same umbrella.
