Jasper Aleksi Pänkäläinen (born April 17, 2008), formerly known as JP, is a Finnish rap artist who now performs under the name Bobby2Smiley. His music reflects a blend of U.S. and UK influences, combined with a subtle Finnish touch.
He previously played ice hockey at the U20 level and also spent six years in ski jumping, demonstrating a strong athletic background alongside his artistic ambitions.
Early Life and Background
Bobby2Smiley was born into a family of entrepreneurs and educators. His father is an entrepreneur, while his mother works as an early childhood education instructor. His upbringing instilled in him a strong work ethic and a deep understanding of both business and creative fields. His godfather is Peter Hakola, known from the duo Makola.[1]
Music was always present in his family — singing during car rides was a common part of everyday life, and it remained a constant even as sports began to take a central role during his early years.[2] Although he committed seriously to athletics, he has described sports more as a dream than a defined goal.
Over time, that focus began to shift. While he built a strong foundation through years of structured training and competition, his connection to music and self-expression gradually became stronger. By his teenage years, he found himself more drawn to creating and expressing than to pursuing athletic routines.
The discipline and commitment he developed through sports have carried over directly into his music, shaping his work ethic and approach to his career. He continues to follow ice hockey closely, with the Boston Bruins as his favorite team.
Career
He began writing music at a young age, drawing inspiration from personal experiences and the emotions that come with growing up.
His career started with releases such as Varas, 24/7, UK, and Fuck Love Songs. As his team and creative collaborations began to take shape, these were followed by a growing catalogue including Da Vinci, DVD, Hustle, Top G / SIP Straight, Joker / She Wanna F, Wonderland, and Maybach.
In early 2026, he established his own studio, allowing him to create music independently at any time of day. This freedom marked a significant shift: his creative process became more instinctive, more personal, and more exploratory. During this period, his artistic identity began to evolve rapidly.
Around the same time, collaborators including Groov Skies and Alexander Zewi became part of his creative circle, contributing to both recordings and live work. Their involvement has further refined his sonic direction. In addition, Peter Hakola has also been involved in his music-making process, further strengthening the collaborative foundation around him.
Name Change and Artistic Identity
The transition from JP to Bobby2Smiley emerged organically during this phase of growth. Producer Groov Skies began calling him “Bobby” in the studio, and the name quickly stuck.
The change was further solidified during a moment outside music. After a long break, he returned to ski jumping, fell during a jump, and injured his hand. The experience became symbolic — a reset point that mirrored the internal shift he was already going through.
As his music deepened, it became clear that “JP” no longer fully represented the artist he was becoming. “Bobby2Smiley” began to take the lead — not just as a name, but as a mindset.
This duality is at the core of Two Face, both a track and his upcoming album. The project reflects the realization of two sides: JP as the individual, and Bobby2Smiley as the artist. Rather than a contradiction, the two identities coexist and shape his creative expression.
Career (continued)
A defining turning point in his artistic journey comes with Two Face. The project marks the moment where his sound, identity, and direction fully align after a long period of searching and refinement.
In contrast to his earlier steady stream of releases, the album will be released without any advance singles, emphasizing its cohesion as a complete body of work and signaling a new level of confidence in his vision.
Collaborators including Groov Skies and Alexander Zewi have played a role in shaping this phase, contributing both in the studio and in live settings.
Musical Style and Influences
His music blends melodic rap with contemporary hip-hop and trap production. He is known for combining emotional honesty with modern soundscapes, bringing notable depth to his work at a young age.
Rather than following specific idols, his approach is driven by an open and exploratory mindset. His flow draws from U.S. rap, while his overall sound represents a hybrid of UK and U.S. styles, shaped with a subtle Finnish influence.
