Bob Wong is a homosexual behavioural and evolutionary biologist who is an accomplished professor and Deputy Head at Monash University in the Biological Sciences department in Australia [1]. He lives in Australia but was born in Singapore and moved to Australia when he was six years old [1]. Ever since a young age he has loved fish, orchids, and carnivorous plants which sparked his interest in biological science [1]. He has met many other scientists from diverse backgrounds which he looks up to and aided in him representing STEM [1].
Education
Bob Wong received his PhD in 2004 from the Australian National University [2]. After his PhD he went overseas to Boston University and the University of Helsinki for his postdoctoral stints [2]. He then returned to Australia for a research fellowship at Monash University, for 14 years he was a teaching and research academic in the Biological Sciences department and became a professor in 2019 [2]. Wong is an advocate for STEM Due to his Asian heritage and as a member of the LGTBQI+ community [2].
Research
Bob Wong's research consists of the evolution of animal mating systems and behaviour, specifically how reproductive strategies and biological diversity is influenced by the investment of sex [3]. His research also includes how environmental changes can impact things such as the evolutionary process aa well as animal behaviour [3]. Many species are included in his research from fish to insects [3].
Some research themes he studies are; sexual selection, parental care, behavioural responses to environmental change, and behavioural ecotoxicology [4].
Bob Wong is published in many journal articles, as well as the book Behavioural responses to a changing world: mechanisms and consequences.[4]
