Blythe Roberson (born 18 December 1990) is a comedic writer. She has published two books: How to Date Men When You Hate Men (2019) and America the Beautiful?: One Woman in a Borrowed Prius on the Road Most Traveled (2023).[1]
She is currently a contributor for The Onion and a contributing writer for the NPR show Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me!
Early life and education
Roberson was born in Lake Forest, Illinois, in 1990, where she grew up on the border of Wisconsin and Illinois. She grew up with her mother, father, step-parents, brother, half-brother, and three stepbrothers. Roberson attended Harvard University where she studied English.
After graduation, Roberson worked in TV production as an assistant and researcher. She briefly worked at the Strand Bookstore in New York City. She currently lives in Brooklyn, New York.
Career
Early Career
Roberson published her first piece in October 2012 about David Foster Wallace for the comedy blog Splitsider, currently known as Vulture.[2] Roberson has published works through different platforms, including The New Yorker,[3] New York Magazine,[4] Atla,[5] Vice,[6] McSweeney’s,[7] The Washington Post, Cosmopolitan,[8] and more. Roberson worked as a full-time guest researcher and writer for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert from 2015 until 2019.

How to Date Men When You Hate Men
Roberson proposed the idea of her first book in 2016. How to Date Men When You Hate Men is a non-fiction comedic collection of personal essays interrogating what it means to date men within contemporary society. The book offers modern-day dating advice in the 21st century and is described as a “modern response to A Lover's Discourse: Fragments” by Roland Barthes.[9]
America the Beautiful: One Woman in a Borrowed Prius on the Road Most Traveled (2023)
Roberson left The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to visit national parks and detail her travels.[10] She took her “great American trip” in the spring and summer of 2019 and documented her journey in her personal narrative.
