Blaise Miranda (April 1, 1967, California, United States) is an author of adult fiction books, most well known for his collaborative works with his son, Tristan Miranda.

Early Life

Miranda was born on April 1, 1967, in California, the youngest of seven children. He was a voracious reader from a young age, if only because he was bored with the education provided at his Catholic school. Despite his love for reading, he didn’t have an interest in writing at the time. Instead, he preferred to skateboard, play the drums, and go to the beach. Being the youngest of seven kids, he grew up as a latch-key child with very little supervision—aside from the tutelage of characters in the stories he read.[1]

Education

Miranda went to California State University Northridge (CSUN) to study Mechanical Engineering, having been exposed to engineering by his father at an early age. While studying, Miranda worked as a security guard at a government defense contracting company, and spent these night shifts reading thrillers and writing stories of his own. Upon graduating from CSUN, he transferred position from a guard to an engineer at this same contracting company and continued to write stories—this time from within his cubicle at lunch and after hours.[2]

Adult Life

Miranda has stated that while he’d always dreamed of being a writer, it hadn’t been a workable career option while providing for his wife and two sons. Miranda switched professions multiple times during his adult life. After leaving his engineering role, he worked as a pool and spa business owner, a deputy sheriff, batting cage business owner, and more recently, an engineering teacher—at which time he earned his Master of Arts in Teaching at Austin Peay State University[2]. In this last profession, he taught classes for both of his sons, and after they graduated, Miranda began writing more seriously with his youngest son, Tristan.

Writing Career

Miranda began co-writing his debut novel, Drowned Sea[3], with Tristan after his son went away to college. He has stated that they used their shared love of writing as a way to stay close despite the physical separation[1]. They spent several years drafting, vetting, and querying the manuscript to literary agents and traditional publishing houses. However, after countless rejections, Miranda and his youngest son opened their own publishing house, MW Press, in 2022[4]. Since then, Miranda has released several books of his own and plans to be a publisher for other authors as well.
