BlackBerry Limited is a Canadian software firm that focuses on providing customers with increased levels of security. It was established in 1984 and at first operated under the name Research In Motion (RIM). The BlackBerry brand of interactive pagers, smartphones, and tablets was established by the company when it was known as RIM. Under the leadership of Chief Executive Officer John S. Chen, the business transformed itself into a provider of cybersecurity enterprise software and services. Its technologies are utilised by a wide variety of companies, including automotive manufacturers, government organisations, and others, to thwart hacking attempts and ransomware assaults. Among them are BlackBerry Cylance's cyber-security solutions that are based on artificial intelligence, the BlackBerry AtHoc emergency communication system (ECS) platform, the QNX real-time operating system, and the BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BlackBerry Unified Endpoint Manager), which is a Unified Endpoint Management (UEM) platform. BlackBerry Cylance is a subsidiary of BlackBerry Limited.

Mike Lazaridis and Douglas Fregin first established Research In Motion in 1984, which later became BlackBerry. Lazaridis recruited Jim Balsillie in 1992, and the two of them worked as co-CEOs of the company up until the 22nd of January, 2012, when Thorsten Heins took over as president and CEO of the company. In November of 2013, John S. Chen was appointed to the position of CEO. His first plan was to concentrate on the development of software technologies while outsourcing the manufacture to Foxconn. At the moment, his plan involves integrating BlackBerry's software portfolio in addition to forging licencing deals with device makers like TCL Communication. On January 4, 2022, BlackBerry stopped supporting the infrastructure and operating system that were utilised by their phones that were not Android-based.
