Bipin Adhikari is a law professor and constitutional law expert in Nepal.[1] He is currently a Professor of Law at the Kathmandu University School of Law and was its founding dean in December 2013.[2] He has published extensively on constitutional issues relevant to the Nepalese legal system, and his opinions are quoted in national and international newspapers.[3][4][5]

Education

Adhikari earned his PhD in Constitutional Law from the Faculty of Law, University of Delhi in 2001.[6]

Career in the United Nations

Adhikari has worked with various United Nations entities, such as the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the United Nations peacekeeping missions.[7] He has previously served with the United Nations in Cambodia, Liberia, and Timor-Leste.[7]

Expertise in Constitutional Law

In 2009, Adhikari was the chief author of a model constitution submitted to the first Constituent Assembly of Nepal following the Nepalese Civil War.[8] He was designated a senior advocate by the Supreme Court of Nepal in 2017.[9] He writes on contemporary constitutional issues relevant to the Nepalese legal system.[10][11]

He is a member of the Supreme Court Bar Association and the Constitution Watch Group, a network of independent experts committed to the Constitution of Nepal and its institutionalization.[12][13] Adhikari is a policy expert associated with the Government of Nepal's Policy Research Institute, a think tank, and a general member of the Nepal Law Society.[14][15] He is also a board member of the University of Nepal's Development Board.[16]
