Big Society are a Manchester-based band formed in 2017.[1] The band consists of lead vocalist William Jaquet, guitarist Thomas Fripp, and bass player Harry Gumery. Fripp and Harry met during their time in another Manchester band, Folks. Harry and Will met later in their first year at the Royal Northern College of Music where Fripp was a year above[2]. They started out listening to records together, then recording covers of obscure songs by The Beatles until Will wrote some original songs, and Big Society was formed.

Since 2017 the band have independently released multiple singles and EPs.[3][4][5]

Big Society have received radio support from Huw Stephens on BBC Radio 1, BBC Introducing Manchester, Radio X (United Kingdom) (inc John Kennedy (radio broadcaster) X-Posure Hot One) and Amazing Radio UK & US[6].

They have performed live across the UK and Ireland including sold-out headline shows in Manchester and London, The Great Escape Festival, Live at Leeds (festival), Hit The North, Off The Record and a prestigious slot on the bill at Bob Dylan and Neil Young’s Hyde Park show[7][8][9].

They've had over 1 million streams on Spotify and have been playlisted on: The Indie List, Hot New Bands, The Rock List, Shockwave, The Brightside, Japan Rock and Transistor.

Their music has been described as "some of the most promising indie-rock to emerge from England in quite some time" by Alfitude[10] and “a gorgeous melting together of sleazy riffs lathered in distortion and something altogether more tender” by DIY Mag.[1]
