Bibi Devi Barbarooah (born 1st November, 1944) is an Assamese people|Assamese Producer, Poet[1], Writer, Lyricist[2] & A.I.R. Announcer. She is the recipient of multiple prestigious awards including The National Award for Film[3], The Literary Award[4] & The Certificate of Appreciation for [HIV and AIDS awareness from Stanford University[5] amongst others. She has produced more than 35 Feature Films, Documentaries, Docu-Series , Docu-Dramas, Television Films & Television Series[6] the most notable ones being National Film Award for Best Anthropological/Ethnographic Film|National Award Winning Spirit of The Graceful Lineage & Blockbuster Tumi Aahibaane. She has written more than 200 songs[7] and poems[8]. She has written more than 15 Film Scripts[9]Screenplay|. She is an influential member of The Assamese Film Fraternity.

Early Life

Birth (1944)

Bibi Devi Barbarooah was born to Bodheswar Sarmah Pathak, a Businessman and Nalini Bala Devi, a Housewife on The 1st of November, 1944 in Dhekial, Assam.

Education (1949-1965)

Bibi first attended Dhekial Primary School for five years (1949-1954). She them attended Dhekial Higher Secondary School for seven years where she passed her Matriculation Examinations (1954-1961). She got her B.A. Degree from Debraj Roy College (1961-1965). She started writing poems and songs while completing her education.

Work Life (1965-1999)

Bibi worked as an assistant teacher at Dhekial Girls High School for two years (1965-1967). She then started as an Announcer at All India Radio[10] for thirty two years (1967-1999).

Family (1970-present)

Bibi married Paran Barbarooah, a Producer and Ranji Trophy Criketeer (1970). She had two children. Prerana Barbarooah and Priyank Paran Barbarooah.

Bibi joined E.I.W.A. (Eastern India Women’s Association)[14] (2014) which is an influential corporation for Women Empowerment. She was then elected as the association’s President (2021) and continues making strong initiatives for women.
