Bettina C. Schwab (born 1988) is a German neuroscientist specializing in brain stimulation and motor control. She is an associate professor and principal investigator at the University of Twente in the Netherlands.[1] Schwab was awarded a European Research Council (ERC) Starting Grant in 2023 for her research on mechanisms of deep brain stimulation.[2] She was also a fellow at the Institute for Advanced Study in Berlin from 2020 to 2021.[3]
Career
Schwab studied physics at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology before earning her PhD in neuroscience.[4] She has worked across several research institutions in Europe, focusing on the intersection of motor control and neural stimulation.[5] She is on the editorial board of The Journal of Physiology[6] and Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society B.[7]
Research
Schwab combines computational and experimental work to understand different brain stimulation techniques.[8]
Public Engagement
Schwab is actively supporting younger academics and scientific minorities.[9]
