Bethlehem is a city in Northampton and Lehigh counties in the Lehigh Valley area of the eastern part of the United States state of Pennsylvania. It is located along the Lehigh River in Northampton and Lehigh counties. At the time of the 2010 census, the city's total population was 74,982, making it Pennsylvania's seventh-largest city (after Philadelphia and Pittsburgh) and the state's seventh-largest city (behind Erie and Reading). There were 55,639 in Northampton County and 19,343 in Lehigh County, according to the census.

Bethlehem is situated in the central of the Lehigh Valley, a 731 square mile (1,890 square kilometre) area that is home to more than 800,000 people. Merged with Allentown and Easton, the Valley includes the Allentown-Bethlehem Easton, PA-NJ metropolitan area, which includes the counties of Lehigh, Northampton, and Carbon counties in Pennsylvania and Warren County in New Jersey, as well as the surrounding states of Lehigh, Northampton, and Carbon. While Bethlehem is smaller than Allentown and bigger than Easton, it is the second-most populated city in the Lehigh Valley. As a result, this metropolitan region is the third-largest metropolitan area in the state of Pennsylvania.
