Béla Gyarmati was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He attended the University of Winnipeg, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre and Political Science from 2014 to 2018. During his time at the university, Gyarmati actively participated in theatrical productions, honing his acting skills and contributing to the local arts scene. In 2016, at the age of 20, Gyarmati ran as the youngest candidate for the Manitoba New Democratic Party (NDP) in the provincial election. He later worked as a youth coordinator for Premier Wab Kinew’s leadership campaign, engaging inner-city Indigenous youth in politics. In addition to his nonprofit work, Gyarmati is the co-founder and CEO of Mermaid Cove Cosmetics, a brand he established with his mother, Ildiko Gyarmati, in 2019. The company specializes in natural, cruelty-free beauty products inspired by the ocean, incorporating ingredients such as aloe and pearl extract. A portion of every product sold is donated to marine conservation efforts. In 2024, Gyarmati launched Kōv, a regenerative moisturizing cream, as part of the brand’s expansion.
