The Bayberry String Quartet is an American classical string quartet established in 2018.[1]
History
Its founding and current members are Nurit Pacht and Steffani Kitayama, violins, Gabe Bolkosky, viola, and Laura Usiskin, cello. They met at Gabe Bolkosky’s chamber workshop PhoenixPhest, where they all taught and performed. Since its inception, the quartet has performed concerts throughout the United States.
Repertoire
The quartet presents a range of repertoire, from standard quartets of Mozart and Beethoven to contemporary works of Ellen Zwilich and Livia Teodorescu. Their discography includes the album Only Mozarts In the Building featuring the complete Mozart Milanese Quartets, K. 155-160[2]. They also write regularly about music through their newsletter, The Currant.
Education
The quartet gives chamber music workshops and coachings throughout the country, and the members also all teach privately. In 2020, they created a virtual rehearsal system using a Digital Audio Workstation, PDF reader, and video conferencing platform. Performers, teachers, ensembles, and organizations throughout the United States used the Bayberry String Quartet’s methods during the COVID-19 pandemic to create music virtually. The quartet has also created the educational video series, “Bayberry Listening Guides.”
