Basij Khalkhali (Born Mohammed Nowruzi; 16 April, 1918 - 31 December, 1995) was a Persian author, poet, politician, and a nominee for the Nobel Prize in Literature.[1] Throughout the 20th century, he wrote poetry in the style of historical epics, such as "The Woodcutters Epic."[2] His work was lauded for its diplomatic importance in a time of tension between Iran and the US. He was elected as a member of the Iranian Senate, and remained in his position until the Senate's eventual dissolution after the 1979 Iranian Revolution[3].
