Barbara Westermann (born Swiezinski, in Werdohl, Germany in 1958) is a conceptual and site-specific sculptor, artist and teacher living in Red Hook, New York. She has lived and worked in New York City for many years and continues to work on projects in the city.

Recent projects

Recent projects include a Women's Studio Workshop fellowship[1] and work with seniors at Su Casa in Queens, New York,[2] and at the Hessel Museum of Art[3] as well as artwork in Art for the Future at Tufts University[4] and super dakota gallery in Brussels.[5] She has shown her work with Clay Street Press Gallery.[6]

Education

She received her B.A. in Architecture & Urban Planning from the University of Kassel, Germany, 1982–77 and her MFA in Sculpture from Cologne University of Applied Sciences Fachhochschule Koln, Germany, 1985–82. She studied with Daniel Spoerri, Eduardo Paolozzi and Stefan Wewerka.

She also met her husband and artistic collaborator William Allen planting trees as part of Beuys' 7000 Eichen project at the documenta 7 project in Kassel, Germany.[7] After moving to New York, she studied at the Whitney Museum Independent Study Program and completed the education certificate at the School of Visual Arts.
