Badal Saboo is an Indian fashion entrepreneur and strategist. Mr. Saboo started out in the fashion industry by founding Pune Fashion Week in 2011, and is the CEO of World Fashion Week [1]. He is also an active member of the organizing committee of the Korea Model Association, which is also responsible for Asia Model Week.

Education

Badal Saboo attended the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), New Delhi, where he received his Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management. He also did his Mechanical Engineering from BIET, Davangere.

Career

Pune Fashion Week

Badal Saboo founded Pune Fashion Week in 2011, creating a platform that brought together international and domestic designers, celebrities that are the faces of innovation in Fashion and Luxury, in addition to industry specialists, investors, and patrons of fashion. The platform has also evolved to actively involve students through series of workshops.[2]

Asia Model Festival and Face of India

Under Saboo’s leadership, the Face of India under the Asia Model Festival has provided a platform for the promotion of Indian culture among other countries. The Asia Model Festival targets SCALAA brand business and facilitates the further growth of Asian models. Mr. Saboo has been the chairman of Face of India, Face of Nepal, Face of Sri Lanka, and Face of the Middle East.

Face of India has partnered with organizations such as Ramoji Film City and Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival.[3]

The 2019 Asia Model Festival Face of South Asia brought together models from these four countries, singling out 11 models who went on to compete in Face of Asia, a part of the 14th Asia Model Festival (AMF) which took place in Seoul and saw 80 models from 25 Asian countries competing.[4]

Other Work

Apart from his work in the fashion industry, Mr. Saboo has also been the managing director of Badal Saboo Groups since 2015. An active presence in the business development sector, it is responsible for mentoring entrepreneurs as well as corporations in Merger & Acquisition phases.

As a social initiative, Mr. Saboo has also spearheaded Fashionable Bharat in 2017, which focuses on artisan communities and their empowerment. By providing opportunities to Non-Governmental Organizations, individuals and organizations, the campaign creates awareness and thus raises sponsorships to support their respective causes.[5]

He is the director of multiple organizations such as MyGenomeBox[6], ALCOR, and Swan Commodities and Exports. He has been the Licensing Director for FashionTV India since 2016. He has also been a partner at Piql India since 2018.

Bringing together Korean and Indian Culture

Over the years, Mr. Saboo has worked on bringing together Korean and Indian culture through different facets. Pune Fashion Week and Face of India powered the 3rd Korean Indian Cultural Festival taking place in Phoenix Market City, Pune, which gave its attendees an insight into the rich culture of the two countries. The event offered interactive experiences and also put up performances that embodied the beauty of both cultures through dance, fashion, and music.[2]

The Asia Model Festival Face of South Asia, which took place in 2019, also saw acts that shone a light on Indian and Korean culture. India was represented by a Kathak performance while Korean culture took to the stage in the form of a K-Pop dance medley.[2]
